social network

I just got back from watching the new movie about facebook and I must say it was pretty good. I hope that he was actually that sarcastic during the depositions as the movie shows.
What really caught my attention was one of the twins saying they were gentleman and that gentleman don't wine or sue others for small problems.  While they totally went against this and got a lot of money, I wish that more people in the U.S. today had the viewpoint that they had at the begining of the movie,
To many people today are looking for a quick fortune and that usually comes from suing somebody that has money.  I would see it all the time at work from people suing the power company because they knew that there were deep pockets even if the power company was not part of the issue at all.  This happens all the time with lawyers looking for the richest organizations to sue even when they are not closely related to problem.  Not that any of that matters though, because the lawyers want a jury trial and as soon as that happens the plaintiff gets all of the pathos because most people see corporations as greedy and bad.  So the company loses the suit thanks to the modern day robin hoods that think they are stealing from the rich to give to the poor when in reality they are just stealing to give to the lazy.

in reality, Robin Hood was a criminal too that should have been hanged

  1. While I agree with what you are saying in terms of today, Robin Hood (or whatever it is he's based on), lived under a very different government system. I don't know if it's an accurate comparison. Although people should definitely get up and go earn money instead of suing Starbucks because their coffee was too hot (don't know if that happened, but sounds like something that would in today's world).

  2. I really agree with what you are saying. People always take advantage of big corporations. I dont know if you remember this, but a few years ago some lady put a fingertip in her chili at Wendy's and tired to sue the company for using a batch of chili that some had an accident making. Wendy's could find no evidence that this happened in their factory, and eventually the lady fessed up.. it was a set up just to get publicity and money.

  3. I am seeing this movie this weekend and looking forward to it. I agree with James, and actually that has happened. A man had a McDonalds coffee spill in his lap and he decided to sue McDonalds. Thats why they now have sleeves on the cups with warnings. It is ridiculous that people try to get some cash by deciding to sue for no reason.

  4. I saw social network this week as well and I thought exactly the same thing about his sarcasm. I thought the personality he portrayed of Mark Zuckerburg was very dynamic and unique. He was persuasive in a very unique way although he did have to pay off his friend and the twins he still came out on top.

  5. I agree with your assessment of ridiculous lawsuits. Being a civil engineering student and working on many construction jobs,I understand that these lawsuits can be quite a nuisance. Working with many different designers and contractors can cause a serious liability problem. Many times firms can be drug into the lawsuit simply because they have more insurance than other firms that completed work on the same project if it can be shown that they were responsible for part of the failure.

  6. Tripp I hear you on that. Lawyers look for the deepest pockets and any way possible to link those pockets to the lawsuit even if it consist of somebody from that company walking by the spot or accident weeks or months before it actually happened

  7. I agree with the fact that civil case law has turned into almost a feeding ground for some pretty ridiculous sounding cases that are passed due to some vague lititaion or simply a well skilled lawyer who can turn the ear of a jury. I mean where else in the world can you recieve a 5 million dollar settlement for spilling hot coffee on yourself at a McDonalds drive in?
